warm milk and honey.

...is so soothing and, well, warm. :) i'm hoping the old wives tell works on me tonight. the last 2 times i tried it didn't work out so well. used to work like a charm, but maybe it's all in my head.

my neighbor loves to be loud between the hours of 10:00 and midnight. usually it's slamming cabinets and drawers or talking really loudly with friends. i have had to fall asleep with earplugs in my ears about half of the nights i've been in this new place. tonight when i laid my head on my pillow i got serenaded with "tonight's gonna be a good night" and "party in the usa"- both performed a cappella by my lovely neighbor, whom i'm guessing to be around the age of 16. while both songs are excellent, they're not really good for one who is trying to go to sleep. but i couldn't sleep anyway, so i guess i can't complain.

i love this song, sung by david crowder on his new cd "church music" (i highly recommend it)... i could play it on repeat all day long:

He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me.
And oh, how He loves us so...

And we are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If his grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about, the way… That He loves us.

just think of how the writer must have felt right before this song was written. it makes my heart turn over just to hear it and to think about His grace, His beauty, His affections, His jealousy for me. it reminds me of the reasons i fall in love with Him constantly, and it makes me wonder how i could ever turn my attention toward anything else that places Him below first in my life.

now, off to see if my special sleep remedy worked... :)

  1. Oh girl! That is the worst! David and I have some crazy stories of our neighbors when we lived at the Gardens of Dunwoody! Hope you get to feeling better! Would love to see you and Emily sometime soon! Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog!

  2. i heard the story behind that song! it's going to make you love it even more :)

so the writer, john mark mcmillan, is from charlotte. he's a worship pastor at a church there. in a church staff meeting, the youth pastor of his church said in a prayer that even if it cost him his life he wanted God to bring a revival among the youth of the nation. soon after he died in a car accident. john mark mcmillan was astounded and didn't understand the purpose of his death. but he was inspired by the love of God that shone through this man's life so he wrote a song about it. and since the song was written, thousands of teens have come to know Christ through it.
    cool huh? :)
