heart language.

i went to JAARS (a partner of Wycliffe bible translators) in waxhaw, nc, last week for a construction mission trip.  this painting is hanging in their lobby...

what language would Jesus use to speak to each of these?

it's a depiction of the last supper with 12 tribes and people groups represented by Jesus' side.  He would never speak to them in a trade language, such as english, spanish, chinese, etc.  He would speak in their heart-language, the language that they've known from birth, one that touches their heart to the core.  that's why it's so important that we not only have the bible translated into major languages, but also into each of the nearly 7,000 languages on this planet.  did you know that there are still around 2,500 heart-languages that do not have a translation of the bible, much less even an alphabet with which to use?

so, what's a heart language?  imagine reading a manuscript in english, but with british or aussie vocabulary.  you'd understand it, but still have some questions.  even english has several words that mean totally different things depending on what part of the world you're in.  your heart language is the set of words that speak to your core, that let you know in the best way possible just how much God loves you.  you know when someone tells you they love you and you kind of believe it?  but then they can tell you in a whole different way that makes you totally believe it?

someone made the statement last week that most american teenagers today don't even have a translation in their heart language.

kinda makes you think, huh?
